Throwback Thursday

I'm the one in green velvet.

1.  There are SO many good Christmas photos that is was hard to settle on just one.  Mostly they're all so 90's fabulous.  I had a perm one year.  So yes, you could say I was very stylish.

2.  To someone unacquainted with my family, this photo may not make any sense because what is even going on there?  We're dressed up, standing on brown carpet with blue sheets draped in the back.  What is it even supposed to be?  Well if you guessed a "DIY-mock-JC Penny-style portrait taken in our living room," you would be correct.  Aaaannnnd I'm not sure we're fooling anyone.

3.  There's a strip of masking tape running up the forefront of the picture (which I guess my mom didn't realize was in the shot?) that was the guideline for where we were allowed to sit in front of the TV.  Nothing closer than the masking tape.  It isn't good for your eyes to be that close to a screen!  Meanwhile, I now spend 12 hours a day on a computer or iPhone.

4.  I also took that masking tape guideline VERY literally and thought that I had to sit exactly on the tape.  There was no room for interpretation.  So as the tape would wear away over time, my sister and I would attempt to fit ourselves on 4 inches of tape.

5.  This is photo 9,746,363 of my sister and I dressed like twins.  It's the Christmas edition.

6.  Do you think I could pull off that haircut now?

Throwback Thursday

I'm the one giving an enthusiastic thumbs up!

1.  I could start a whole new blog containing just pictures of me giving thumbs up.  From the ages of 6-11, I'd estimate 70% of photos involved me giving a thumbs up.  I was and still am very cool obviously.

2.  My older sister and I shared a room and my little sister had her own (for reasons I never understood and was very vocal about).  However, she felt left out of sisterly things so every night we'd stick a tiny mattress between our two beds and she would sleep there.  Which is why this picture looks like we're all sleeping in a giant bed together like we're in Little House on the Prairie.

3.  Full Disclosure: I've never seen Little House on the Prairie but I've gotta assume they all slept in some sorta of giant bed-type thing together, right?  Seems like something people did on a prairie.

4.  Also, in the last few sentences I've spelled "prairie" like praiirie, prarie, paraie, and parrie but never prairie.  MY FINGERS WILL NOT COOPERATE.

5.  I will keep that tiny dresser until the day I die.  It's been in my bedroom since the day I was born and it's literally been in my room every day since.  It's missing a knob and it's a little worse for wear but I love it.

6.  Gracie's cheeks.  For real......

Throwback Thursday

I'm styling the blue socks

1.  No big deal, just posing at the Hover Dam.  Where did I even a learn a pose like that?  I know Tyra wasn't around to impart her wisdom in those days.  Probably just came naturally to me.

2.  I'm definitely wearing blue socks with clear jelly shoes.  Fashion icon for 6 year olds everywhere.

3.  I feel like maybe Sara was a touch too old to be wearing pig tails?  Maybe?  I have some pretty strict standards when it comes to pig tails guys.  Don't even get me started on seeing an adult woman in pigtails.  It just doesn't sit right with me.

4.  As stated last week, this is further evidence of our matching outfits.  YEARS worth of matching outfits.

5.  Check out how yellow this picture.  It's not even an Instagram filter.  It's actually that yellow.  So authentic.

6.  Ok, I'll say what we're all thinking: Acid. Wash. Jean. Shorts.

Throwback Thursday

I'm the one in red.

1.  First day of school!  Kindergarten to be exact.  Thought it seemed timely.  You can always rely on my for quality content.

2.  Check out my white patent leather shoes and my frilly socks.  If I have a little girl someday you better believe she'll be born wearing adorable tiny saddle shoes or something.  There's nothing cuter than a tiny pair of shoes.

3.  Like pretty much everyone in the world, I absolutely LOVED shopping for school supplies.  It was one of the best days of the year.  Picking out a backpack was arguably the very best part (a close second was picking out markers.  No, crayons!  No, folders!) I think I could still describe every backpack I've ever owned and what year I owned it.  I couldn't tell you what the ending of the book I read last was but I could describe my pink and aqua blue backpack from 5th grade.

4.  That high half ponytail was my go-to hairstyle for most of kindergarten.  I don't have the guts to pull that off now.

5.  A cap sleeve always suited me well.

6.  Bangs forever and ever.  And ever.

Throwback Thursday

1.  Those are actual bunnies everyone!! Cuddly, adorable, tiny bunnies!!!  This was the best day of my life and everything else has been downhill.  Kidding but only sorta.

2.  To our surprise and delight, we came home one day to find that one of our rabbits had given birth to 6 bunnies.  Who knew that rabbits like to procreate except everyone on Earth?  Turns out that baby bunnies are actually just little helpless creepy blobs (probz like real babies?) for awhile before they start to look adorable.

3.  The mother rabbit was actually completely terrifying and genuinely frightened my sisters and me.  She scratched and thumped and bit.  Worst pet ever.  After she gave birth she basically ignored the bunnies, let two die, and then we intervened.  Intervening meant we put oven mitts on to hold her down so she wouldn't scratch our hands and then we let the bunnies feed.  I'm gonna make a great mother one day.

4.  Gracie is holding the bunnies in her armpits for some reason.

5.  Probably one of the last times I wore shorts.  My family genes do not allow for shorts in adulthood.

Throwback Thursday

1.  Before you get confused I should tell you that this is not actually a photo of Princess Jasmine.  It's me, guys.   There is a striking resemblance though.

2.  I distinctly remember being DEVASTATED when my Mom made me wear that pink T-shirt under the costume.  She was concerned I'd be cold trick-or-treating and she told me no one would even notice.  Well I noticed Mom!  I was convinced that the pink T-shirt was the only thing keeping my costume from being authentic.  However, I was not at all concerned about that mop of hair on my head.

3.  The rest of the costume is actually just pajamas.  For reasons beyond my understanding, most "princess" costumes have a picture of the actual princess on the costume itself.  Even at the age of 9 I knew this was stupid because Jasmine would never wear an outfit with a picture of herself on it.  Duh Disney.  So I was happy to parade around the neighborhood in pajamas instead.

4.  Though you can't quite tell in this picture, this happens to be right on the very cusp of my "awkward phase" which started around age 10 and lasted until about 27.  This is about the time when my nose and feet started growing faster than everything else on my body and my eyebrows began forming as one long straight brow.  However, my sense of smell was impeccable and I could swim like a fish.  There's no benefit to a unibrow though.

5.  Man, I can really rock a red lip.

Throwback Thursday

Me, far right

1.  This photo should be in a time capsule for future generations to study.  It's almost like someone said "Gather children and compose a photograph that encapsulates the 90's."  And thus this photo was taken.  I'm sporting a high half ponytail, Sara (in pink) is wearing the widest belt ever manufactured with a black denim skirt and my cousins (the boys) are representin' in their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sweatshirts.  Also, bangs.  Obviously.  Presently, there is a hipster in Wicker Park wearing these clothes ionically.

2.  You're probably wondering if I'm wearing a full capri-length floral body suit with attached skirt.  To confirm, yes, I am.  And yes, I was very stylish at a very young age.

3.  Not seen here (unfortunately), but my cousins were known to proudly sport a "rat tail" hairstyle in the 90's.  My Grandma Tina would braid it for them because I guess what the heck else are you supposed to do with a rat tail hairstyle ? (the correct answer is "never have a rat tail hairstyle")

4.  I really look like I just sidled up into this picture with my hand jauntily on my hip.  I've got the mischievous grin only a 7 year old who thought she was Stephanie Tanner  would have.  Being a middle child, I fancied myself a "Stephanie Tanner" but I had neither the quick wit nor kickass dance moves.

5.  My little sister, Gracie, is the nugget in the front who is basically 80% cheeks.

Throwback Thursday

YES.  Classic.

1.  I think I'm about 4 or 5 here and I'm already rocking some pink sponge curlers in my hair.  I literally still use sponge curlers to this day.  I've adjusted my technique, obviously.  But I'm nothing if not a creature of habit.

2.  Was there anyone on the planet who didn't own roller skates like this?  They made a cranking sound when you skated and the wheels barely turned.  I suppose that stopped a 4 year old from careening around the neighborhood though.  Apparently, they've modernized them a bit since 1989.

3.  Also I'm skating indoors.

4.  Knee Socks.

5.  I specifically remember loving this nightgown.  It was totally my favorite and I can even remember the soft jersey texture to this day.  It's not weird at all!

6.  Check out that wallpaper.  It does not get better than that.  Like yellow palm trees?  Or something?  It matched our yellow formica kitchen table so it was classy.  (I only sorta know what formica actually is).

7.  Ignore my face. And bangs.

Throwback Thursday

This one is a gem!  It's special for so many reasons.

1.  My hair is basically bleach blonde on the ends because I was never not underwater in a chlorinated pool for the whole summer.  It's borderline green hair.

2.  Scrunchy.  On top of my head.  Right where it should be in 1994.

3.  I'm wearing a bodysuit.  The kind that snapped in the crotch.  Why were those ever a thing and why is American Apparel trying to make them happen again?  Needless to say though, I owned a dozen of them.

4.  Paint splatter background.  I think I practically begged my mom for this background.  It's just SO COOL.  Almost as cool as the laser background or the brick wall background.  Almost.

5.  When this picture was taken, I was really heavy into my Dean Cain obsession (he was in his Superman days!) and despite it being really weird that I was 10 and he was about 30, my mom let me send him a letter and ask for his autograph.  So, I offered to trade autographs with him by signing this very picture of myself and sending it to him.  I would give nearly anything to read the letter that I actually wrote him because it would surely be comedy gold but it must have worked because he sent an autograph back! It was the best day of my 10-year old life.   And I'd probz still rank it in my top 5 days of my 28 year old life.  #sortasad

6.  Clearly this was life before braces.  CLEARLY.

7.  Related: this.
