Battle of the Maybelline Highlighters

Ding ding ding.  In the ring today we have:

Much like my never-ending quest for the "world's best mascara," my quest for the best highlighting products marches on.  I've been a dedicated Instant Age Rewind fan for the last 6 months or so but I was willing to venture out a bit and try something new.

I use these highlighting concealers almost exclusively under my eyes and I also wear them in addition to regular concealers (to help fight dark circles).  I certainly don't think these concealers are meant to replace all concealers in your collection since they would be far too light to conceal normal blemishes around the face.

If you're unfamiliar with highlighting concealers, most are somewhat light coverage and have a salmon-y pink tone to combat blue-purple under eye circles.  When blended well, they can really brighten the face and help contour.

So let's get down to business:

Right off the bat, it's easy to spot the formulation differences.  The Dream Lumi is much thicker than the Instant Age Rewind.  Consequently, it takes a little more effort to fully blend the Dream Lumi. Additionally, while both highlighters are certainly a salmon-y pink, the Dream Lumi tends to lean just a tiny touch orange.  I haven't had any issues with it appearing orange or oxidizing once blended but it's not quite as pale as the Instant Age Rewind.  In terms of longevity, it'd say it's a tie.  I find them both to be equally long-lasting, upwards of 10 hours.

So who wins?  My vote goes for the Instant Age Rewind.  For comparable prices,  you get more for your money (.05oz for Dream Lumi vs .2oz for Instant Age Rewind) and I prefer the lighter, thinner formulation.  It takes a bit less time to blend and every minute counts in the morning.  Lastly, I much prefer the applicator on the Instant Age Rewind because it dispenses a modest amount of product rather the Dream Lumi, which I've found to be either too little or too much.

So have you tried either highlighter?  Which is your favorite?

  1. I personally love the Dream Lumi! My holy grail not only highlight, but concealer! It's amazing and I find that with a damp sponge such as my Beauty Blender, it blends out to a perfect finish.
